Want to play all your old DOS cool games on your XP pc, well you can with a free utility called Dosbox. Dosbox is an DOS-emulator that uses SDL-library that allows dosbox to run on many different platforms the program emulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with everything necessary for running many old DOS games that simply cannot be run on modern PCs and operating systems, such as Windows 2000, XP, Linux and FreeBSD. The other great thing about dosbox is that it is not restricted to running only games. DOS application should run in DOSBox, but the priority with the tool has been on getting DOS games to run smoothly, which means that communication, networking, and printing are still in infancy as they were not really a priority when creating the tool, but now they are fine tuning those issues as well. There is a huge following with dosbox with many forums, programmers and users working together to constantly improve the tool. At this point, it is a great free download that allows your newer systems to play old dos games, without losing, the sound or graphics that were intended for game play. Most programs run properly on Windows XP. The exceptions are some older games and other programs that were written specifically for an earlier version of Windows. These programs may run poorly or not at all after you first upgrade to Windows XP. You may have heard this referred to as application compatibility issues or program compatibility issues. In most cases, Windows XP allows you to get these programs working again, using a feature called Program Compatibility Mode Replacement Docs is a great site that has a full library of all game manuals, maps and more.
