Interesting Gaming Facts

First of all, I must admit I love old computer games, especially LucasArts, and Sierra.  I really love the thrill of the find when I find a mint game in the box with all inserts!  I also love presenting such a gem to a collector that has been searching high and low for that particular game.  It is interesting to know the background of some of the more famous gaming companies to see how they were formulated.  Below is a summary of such facts for some of the most popular gaming companies.  You will also find here a list of the most rarest and collectible pc games, a must have resource for all pc gamer collectors.

LucasArts

LucasArts was founded in May 1982 as the Games Group of Lucasfilm Ltd., the film production company of George Lucas. Lucas had wanted his company to expand into other areas of entertainment, and so he cooperated with Atari to produce video games.

Some of the first games were Ballblazer and Rescue on Fractalus in 1984, they were released for the Atari 5200 under the Lucasfilm Games label.  The home computer versions were not released until 1985 by publishing company Epyx.  The next two games were

were Koronis Rift and The Eidolon

In 1990 LucasFilms became part of the newly created LucasArts

Sierra Entertainment

Sierra Entertainment was originally named, was established in 1979

The first game Mystery House available for the Apple II, it was text accompanied by a series of black and white line drawings. The Williams' second game, The Wizard and the Princess was in full color, and took full advantage of that machine's high-res capability.

Origin Systems

The company was founded in 1983 by brothers Robert and Richard Garriott. 

Origin produced many successful games including the Ultima Series, Wing Commander Series, Strike Commander, Crusader: No Remorse, System Shock, and Wings of Glory.

In September 1992 Electronic Arts acquired the company.

In February of 2004, the studio was disbanded by Electronic Arts.
